Mir Aimal Kansi is one of the most popular and richest Criminal who was born on February 10, 1964 in Quetta, Pakistan. Kansi was an ethnic Baluchi, born in Quetta (Pakistan) on 10 February 1964 or 01 January 1967. In 1991, he entered the United States under the name Mir Aimal Kansi. He brought with him a large sum of cash that he had inherited from his father’s death in 1989. He used forged papers he bought in Karachi, Pakistan. He changed his name to Kansi and then bought a fake US greencard in Miami, Florida.
The informant told Kansi to be lured into Pakistan by the informant, as he was near the Durand Line border. Kansi was lured by a lucrative business opportunity to smuggle Russian electronic goods into Pakistan. He then traveled to Dera Ghazi Khan in the Punjab province, Pakistan where he checked into Shalimar Hotel. Kansi’s hotel room was raided by an armed group of FBI officers and the Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence at 4 AM on 15 June 1997. His fingerprints were taken at the scene to confirm his identity. Kansi’s next destination is not clear from sources. The US claims it was a Pakistani holding facility, while Pakistani sources claim that it was the US Embassy in Islamabad. Kansi was then flown to the USA in a C141 transport on 17 June. Kansi gave a complete oral and written confession during the flight to the FBI.
Kansi was tried at the Fairfax County Courthouse in Fairfax, Virginia, by a jury trial over a period of ten days in November 1997; he had pleaded not guilty to all charges. The jury found him guilty and recommended the death penalty for the capital murder charge. On 4 February 1998, Kansi was sentenced to death for the capital murder of Darling, who was shot at the beginning of the attack and again after the other victims had been shot. His other sentences of life imprisonment for the first-degree murder of Bennett, a 60 year sentence for the three malicious woundings, and fines totaling $600,000 were rendered moot by his execution.
Kansi was executed by lethal injection on 14 November 2002, at Greensville Correctional Center, in Jarratt, Virginia. Kansi’s body was repatriated to Pakistan; his funeral was attended by the entire civil hierarchy of Balochistan, the local Pakistan Army Corps Commander and the Pakistani Ambassador to the United States, Ashraf Jahangir Qazi.
Kansi pulled a brown Datsun stationwagon from a friend and stopped it behind a bunch of other vehicles at a Fairfax County red light. This was on Route 123 eastbound. They were waiting to turn left into the main entrance to CIA headquarters. Kansi, who was armed with a semi-automatic Type 56 assault weapon, emerged from his vehicle and began to move through the vehicles firing 10 rounds. He killed Lansing H. Bennett (66) and Frank Darling (28). Three other victims were left with gunshot wounds. Darling was the first to be shot and then Kansi later inflicted additional gunshot wounds on the head.

Mir Aimal Kansi, a Pakistani national, was convicted in 1993 of the shooting at CIA Headquarters in Langley (Virginia), on February 10, 1964. Kansi shot and killed two CIA employees, while injuring three others. Kansi fled immediately to Kandahar in Afghanistan, where he was later a Taliban stronghold. He hid for four years. With the help of Pakistani Police officers, he was captured and taken into custody by the FBI. He was convicted and sentenced to die after being returned to the USA. In 2002, he was executed via lethal injection.
Kansi was a fugitive at the time and was charged in absentia on 16 February 1993. These charges included the capital murder of Darling and Bennett’s murder, as well as three counts each of malicious wounding of the other victims.
In May 1997, an informant walked into the U.S. consulate in Karachi and claimed he could help lead them to Kansi. As proof, he showed a copy of a drivers license application made by Kansi under a false name but bearing his photograph. Apparently, the people who had been sheltering Kansi wanted the multimillion-dollar reward offer for his capture. Kansi stated, “I want to make it clear [that] the people who tricked me […] were Pushtuns, they were owners of land in the Leghari and Khosa clan areas in Dera Ghazi Khan, but I will never name them.”
