Miodrag Belodedici is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on May 20, 1964 in Socol, Romania. Miodrag Beledici (Romanian pronunciation: “belo’deditSj]; Serbian Miodrag / Miodrag Balodedic, born 20 May 1964) was a former professional Romanian footballer who used to be a sweeper.
Belodedici fled his country in 1988 to the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, while Nicolae Ceausescu was still at power. Later, he shared his story of his escape from Belgrade. He saw himself in Belgrade and contacted Red Star Belgrade’s president. However, due to the chaos in the team following their defeat to FK Partizan, he was unable to get through. He was approached by a Serbian friend to agree to play for Partizan, but he insisted that he only would play for Red Star. The president then interrupted their conversation, and when he realized that he had been the 1986 European Cup winner himself, he signed him immediately.
However, during his first year, Belodedici had to play without a legal contract, and only in friendly matches, as the Romanian authorities forged his professional player contract, and UEFA suspended him for one year on the basis of data furnished. The Ceaușescu regime found him guilty of treason and sentenced him to ten years of prison in absentia; after the Romanian Revolution of 1989, all charges were dropped, and Belodedici returned to Bucharest.
Belodedici signed with Valencia CF for the 1992–93 season, being a starter in his second year as the Che finished in seventh position, with no fewer than four managers being used during the campaign, including Guus Hiddink twice.
Belodedici, then aged 20, made his debut for Romania in a friendly match against China on 31 July 1984. He scored three of his five international goals in 1987, including one against Albania in the UEFA Euro 1988 qualifiers (5-1 win in Bucharest).
