Minas Gekos is one of the most popular and richest Basketball Coach who was born on November 7, 1959 in Kurtuluş, Aydın Province, Turkey. Minas Gekos, alternative spelling: Gkegos (Greek, Menas Gkekos) is a former professional basketball player and professional basketball coach from Greece. He was 6′ 1/4″ (1.87m) tall and played as a point guard or shooting guard.
From 1991 to 1994, he was with Panathinaikos. He won the Greek Cup 1993 as a Panathinaikos player, but he didn’t play in the final. He played in four Greek Cup Finals and scored a total score of 73 points. For the final season of his playing career (1994-1995), he returned to AEK Athens.
He then became the head coach of Apollon Patras, in 2000. He next became head coach of Papagou, in 2003. After that, he was Panagiotis Giannakis’ assistant coach in Maroussi, and Luka Pavićević’s assistant coach in Panionios.
Gekos participated in 53 games as a senior player for the Greek national basketball team. He was part of the senior Greek national basketball team and played in the EuroBasket 1979 as well as the EuroBasket 1982. He won gold medals at both the 1979 Balkan Basketball Cup and the 1979 Mediterranean Games.

Gekos began his playing career in 1975 with Istanbul Teknik Universitesi. Later, he moved to Greece and joined AEK Athens. He played there until 1991. He won the Greek Cup 1981 with AEK and played in the finals of the Greek Cup in 1978, 1980 and 1988.
After he retired from playing professional basketball, Gekos started his coaching career in 1995, when he became an assistant coach under Vlado Đurović and Slobodan Subotić, in AEK Athens. In 1997, he became an assistant coach, under Subotić, with Panathinaikos. He became the head coach of Esperos Kallitheas, in 1999.
