Milica Pap is one of the most popular and richest Pianist who was born on December 14, 1973 in Sarajevo, Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Milica Pap (born December 14, 1973, in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia) is a classical pianist of Bosnian-Herzegovinian, Serbian and Croatian descent.
Her performing repertoire includes many of the major Russian pianists, including Prokofiev, Scriabin and Rachmaninov. In 2003, she was invited to perform Rachmaninov’s second concerto with Belgrade Symphony Orchestra at the EPTA meeting. She was offered a scholarship at the Luxembourg Conservatoire, which she accepted. During this year she received the Victor Fenigstein prize for outstanding talent. She received a Diplome Superieure de Piano from the Luxembourg Conservatoire, where she studied under Professor S. Bausch. There, she also won first prize in harmony, counterpoint and fugue under Professor A. Mullenbach.
Since September 2008 she has lived in France sharing her time between Nantes and Paris . In the former city she has already built a reputation as a teacher and vocal accompanist while also giving recitals. In Paris her work has centred round her ambition to study the work and set up of the world-famous Paris Conservatoire with the hope of one day establishing a similar institution in Sarajevo. French musicians and musicologists have received her enthusiastically and admire her plans.
Her career was hampered, and her life has been affected by war, as have many Yugoslavians who were born prior to the Balkan conflict. She was a stateless person who couldn’t travel to any country for four years while she was living in Belgrade. These were the years that most young virtuosi would make their mark on the international stage. This experience also made her sympathetic to ethnic minorities being persecuted, as her family was from different ethnic groups. She even attempted to create a project called “Music without Frontiers” in 1998 to unify the Balkan peoples with the help of UNESCO. However, it was politically impossible. It is an ambition that she still hopes to achieve someday.
