Franck was appointed artistic director of the National Orchestra of Belgium (September 2002) and held that position until 2007. Franck was officially appointed general music director of Finland’s National Opera in August 2006. He abruptly resigned from his position in February 2007. He claimed that he was losing confidence in Erkki Korhonen, the general director of the Finnish National Opera, and Pekka Kauranen, the administrative director. Franck was officially re-elected to the dual posts of Artistic Director/General Music Director in November 2007. Franck ended his term in both of these posts on 31 July 2013. Franck started his tenure in September 2015 as music director at the Orchestre philharmonique radio France.
Franck wed Martina Pickert, a German opera director, in 2006. They divorced in 2010.
