Mikhail Burla is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on November 22, 1957 in Storozhynets, Chernivtsi Oblast, Ukraine. Burla was born 22 November 1957 in Storozhynets Raion, Chernivtsi Obblast in Ukraine. Burla is an economist by profession. He spent most of his life teaching at T.G. Shevchenko University, Tiraspol.

He also taught courses in teacher training in history and geography (1986-1903). He was the president of the Republican Scientific and Methodological Council on Geography from September 1, 1999 to September 1, 2004. He is also the author of The Concept of Geographical Education for General Education Institutions of Transnistria, and of several experimental programs of teaching geography. In 1998, he was awarded the honorary title of “Excellent worker of the National Education System”. He was a member of Transnistria’s Accreditation College from 2004 to 2005.

Between January 2, 1986 and November 30, 2003, Mihail Burla worked at the Department of Economic Geography and Regional Economy of the State Pedagogical Institute “TG Shevchenko” in Tiraspol (since 1992 State University of Transnistria) in the following positions: assistant (up to April 1988), lecturer (until April 1991), associate professor (until 14 March 2003) and head of department (until 14 March 2003).

Burla is a member of Transnistria’s Supreme Council, where he has been vice- speaker since 22 July 2009, and an ally of Yevgeny Shevchuk (speaker of parliament from December 2005 until July 2009) and Anatoliy Kaminski (speaker since 2009).

His research activities are extensive. He has been a senior researcher at “TG Shevchenko”‘s Laboratory of Scientific Research since 1993. He participated in the elaboration of many Transnistria geographic atlases for the years 1993-1996 and 2004–2005 as well as more than 15 Transnistria demographic and economic maps.

In 2005 he took part in the elaboration of the Historical Atlas of Transnistria, being the author of two maps of the social and economic development of Transnistria (for the periods 1944-1989 and 1990-2004). Mihail Burla was twice a winner of the Transnistrian State Prize for Science and Technology (1996; 2003), and was also an adviser to the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (since 1998).
