Mike Adrianus Wilhelmus van der Hoorn, a Dutch professional footballer, was born 15 October 1992. He plays as a centreback for Championship club Swansea City. He has appeared in thirteen games for the Netherlands U-21 football team.
Van der Hoorn signed a four-year contract that binds him to Ajax through the summer of 2017, and was reported to have transferred from Utrecht, Netherlands to Amsterdam. On 13 July 2013, he made his debut for Ajax in a friendly match against RKC Waalwijk. Ajax won the match 1-5. Van der Hoorn played the entire second half of match after replacing Toby Alderweireld in the half-time. In a preseason friendly against Willem II on 28 July 2013, Van der Hoorn scored his first goal for Ajax. He did so in the 22nd minute of the 3-1 victory at Sportpark De Toekomst. On the third day of the season, he played against Feyenoord, his arch-rivals. Van der Hoorn made his league debut in the Klassieker match at the Amsterdam Arena. In July 2016, Van der Hoorn joined Swansea City on a three-year deal for a fee rumored to be around £2 million. He was made to wait for his first appearance for the Swans, coming into the side for the 3–1 home defeat to Manchester City in late September. Van der Hoorn scored his first Swansea goal in a 3–1 defeat to Manchester United, heading in from a Gylfi Sigurðsson free kick.
Van der Hoorn’s Swansea appearances continued to be sporadic throughout the rest of the season, before a change of manager in December 2017 saw him becoming a first team regular for the first time since his arrival in South Wales. He scored the second goal in the 4–1 win over West Ham in March 2018 as Swansea climbed out of the relegation zone.
Van der Hoorn was the first player to make his debut for the Netherlands under-21 team in a friendly against Croatia U-21 on February 5, 2013. The match ended in a 3-2 victory for the Dutch. Cor Pot selected Van der Hoorn to represent the Netherlands under-21 football team at the 2013 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship. Van der Hoorn was present in two games during the tournament. The Dutch lost to Italy U-21 in the semi-finals.

Van der Hoorn was a Flevoland native. He joined the local SC Buitenboys club, then FC Omniworld, before being recruited to the FC Utrecht youth ranks in 2006. On 15 May 2011, he made his league debut with the first team in a match against AZ. Van der Hoorn was substituted in the 77th minutes for Mark van der Maarel. The match ended 5-1. Van der Hoorn appeared in 12 league matches and scored twice more. In the same fixture, he scored his first Utrecht goals. On 30 March 2012, he played against SBV Excelsior Rotterdam. Match ended in a 3-2 victory for Utrecht at Stadion Galgenwaard. Van der Hoorn scored in the 22′ as well as in the 75th minute.
Louis van Gaal called him up to the Dutch national team for his first time on 6 March 2013. He had been selected to be part of the preliminary squad before the team’s trip to Asia. The 2012–13 campaign saw Van der Hoorn breakthrough as he became the first choice Centre back under head coach Jan Wouters, appearing in 31 Eredivisie matches and scoring four goals. He helped his side to 5th-place finish in the league table, qualifying for the UEFA Europa League through the Eredivisie Playoff rounds, where they beat SC Heerenveen 3–1 on aggregate, and FC Twente 3–2 on aggregate, thus qualifying for the UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds. That year Van der Hoorn was pronounced the FC Utrecht Player of the Year, winning the David Di Tommaso Trophy, receiving his award after the home match against Heracles Almelo on 12 May 2013. The trophy was awarded by none other than Audrey, David Di Tommaso’s widow to a loud and warm applause from the audience. His teammates Robbin Ruiter and Jens Toornstra came in second and third place for the trophy that season.
