He began filming the IMAX 3D Project Flight of the Butterflies in 2011. The film covers Dr Fred Urquhart’s almost 40-year-long scientific investigation on the monarch butterfly. The principal filming of this one-year project was completed early March 2012. The film’s world premiere took place at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. on September 24, 2012. It was hosted by the Federal government of Mexico, through both the Mexico Tourism Board, and the Embassy of Mexico.

Slee was the director of The Gunpowder Plot Exploding The Legend, a 2005 British television program. He directed Meerkat Manor:The Story Begins in 2008, and was narrated on screen by Whoopi Goldberg. The film, which was based on Animal Planet’s television series, was chosen for Tribeca Film Festival.

Born in Windlesham in Surrey, Slee studied Art & Design in Kingston University and received a first-class honours degree in photography, film and TV from the London College of Printing. First, he was recognized for his role as director of James Burke in the 1989 ACE Award-winning PBS documentary series After the Warming. This series, which used virtual reality computer simulations to address the problem of global warming was a prescient one.

Slee directed 20 episodes of Connections 2, a TLC series that he co-directed with Burke. He was a pioneer in large-screen IMAX filmmaking by 1997. He co- developed and directed Wildfire – Feel the Heat for the Discovery Channel and The Legend of Loch Lomond (Strathclyde European Partner). He co-wrote and directed BUGS 3D! in 2003, a $9 million IMAX 3D drama about natural history, narrated Judi Dench. It was semi-finalist in the 2004 Oscars and won the GSTA Lifelong Learning Honor that same year.
