Mike Seidel is one of the most popular and richest Television Meteorologist who was born on January 18, 1956 in Salisbury, Maryland, United States. Seidel was born 1956 in Salisbury (Maryland) to Marilyn “Lynn” Cahall, a nurse, as well as Samuel W. Seidel an insurance executive. Seidel is married to Christine Schroder, since 1994. The couple has two children, Sam & Zoe.

Seidel was a broadcaster in his first position. He worked at WYFF TV in Greenville, South Carolina from 1983 to 1989. In 1989, he returned to Salisbury to become WBOC-TV’s meteorologist. Seidel remained at WBOC-TV until March 1992 when he moved to The Weather Channel.

While reporting from North Carolina during Hurricane Florence in 2018, Seidel received some media attention after a video was published showing him bracing his feet in a direction not against the wind while two men casually walked by in the background. Observers on Twitter and some comedic news headlines suggested that Seidel was exaggerating the severity of the winds. In response, The Weather Channel stated, “It’s important to note that the two individuals in the background are walking on concrete, and Mike Seidel is trying to maintain his footing on wet grass, after reporting on-air until 1:00 a.m. ET this morning and is undoubtedly exhausted.”

While at The Weather Channel, Seidel has appeared on numerous network news programs, including NBC-TV’s Today Show and NBC Nightly News, CBS-TV’s The Early Show, The CBS Evening News and CBS Sunday Morning, and ABC-TV’s Good Morning America, World News Tonight, Nightline and World News Now. Seidel has also reported live from breaking weather on MSNBC, the Cable News Network and Fox News Channel. Seidel filled in for Tony Perkins on ABC’s Good Morning America in 2003 and for Al Roker on NBC’s The Today Show in 2009. He became the first Weather Channel and U.S. meteorologist to report live from Cuba during coverage of Tropical Storm Isaac August 24–26, 2012. On January 12, 2018, Seidel did his 20,000th live shot during a snowstorm in Rochester, NY.

Seidel started his television career immediately after graduating from college. He worked for WMDT-TV in Salisbury, 1980-1982. Seidel went on to graduate school and earned his Master’s in Meteorology from Pennsylvania State University. Seidel’s master’s thesis was written under the guidance of Dr. Greg Forbes. Forbes is now The Weather Channel’s expert in severe weather. Seidel was a graduate student and appeared on Weather World, a Pennsylvania Public Television Network program.

American meteorologist Michael Phillip “Mike” Seidel was born January 18, 1956 and has been with The Weather Channel since March 1992. His ability to report from severe weather conditions, such as hurricanes and snowstorms, is what makes him a notable meteorologist.

Seidel began his interest in weather at six years old when he started measuring snowfall in Salisbury, Maryland. Seidel built a weather station to monitor the weather while he was still in eighth grade. During high school and college, he worked at four radio stations, including WJDY in Salisbury and WDMV-AM Pocomoke City, and WKHI in Ocean City (all three in Maryland), and WSUX in Seaford, Delaware. Seidel graduated from Wicomico Senior High School (now Wicomico High School) in 1979. He then attended Salisbury State College, where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in mathematics. He also studied geography.

Seidel covered his first storm, Hurricane Edouard, on Labor Day Weekend in 1996 on Cape Cod. Since then he has covered nearly 70 tropical storms and hurricanes, nor’easters, numerous snow and ice storms, and tornado outbreaks. He has also reported live from the PGA Tour, the Baseball All-Star Game, the World Series, and the Indianapolis 500 automobile race. From 2002 to 2012, Seidel hosted the National Football League “Kickoff Forecast” segments every Sunday morning from NFL venues.
