Born 25 January 1978 in Barnehurst (South London), son of David Frederick Rolfe, a council worker, and Dorothy Jane Mungeam (Rolfe), he was 38 years old at the time he assumed the role of National Chair of POA. Rolfe became a prominent figure during the latter part of 2016 following a string of appearances on BBC News at Ten and various other news outlets forcing the Secretary of State for Justice Elizabeth Truss to concede “serious issues” that would take time to resolve within the Prison estate.

Prior to standing as a Labour Party Candidate in the 2017 General Election, Rolfe stood in the 2013 Kent County Council elections for TUSC in the constituency of Sheppey, finishing 5th with 2% of the overall vote share.

Rolfe gained notoriety in prison service when he created the Facebook page ‘Know The Danger’ (or ‘KTD’) in May 2013. This was at the time of major restructuring within the Prison system. These changes have been widely criticised and attributed the current systemic failures within UK Prison Service. They culminated in the worst reported riots during 2016 (the worst in 25 years).
