Michael Anthony McFarlane OBE, born 2 May 1960, is a former British athlete who competed mostly in the 100m and 200m. At the 1988 Seoul Olympics, he won an Olympic silver medal in 4x100m relay. He was the gold medallist in the 200 m at the 1982 Commonwealth Games, and the 60 meter gold medallist at 1985 European Athletics Indoor Championships. McFarlane also won two sprint medals at 1986 Commonwealth Games.
In the 4 x 100 meter relay, he competed for Great Britain at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. He won the silver medal along with John Regis, Elliot Bunney and Linford Christie. After retirement, he went on to a successful coaching career. He is now a high-performance coach for UK Athletics at the National Athletics Centre (Lee Valley).
He won the U.K. 100-meter championships in 1984. After that, he went to Los Angeles Olympics, where he finished 5th in the 100-meter final. He was the European Indoor Champion at 60 meters in 1985. He competed in his third Commonwealth games in 1986, where he won silver in the sprint relay and bronze in 100 meters. In 1986, he reached the European 100-meter final in Stuttgart and finished 6th. He failed to reach the final of the 100 m race at the 1987 World Championships in Athletics.

He was born in Hackney, London. He began his career as a schoolboy, winning the 200 meter race for English schoolboys three times. He went on to win AAA’s junior Indoor 60/200 meters titles. The outdoor AAA’s junior 200 win was the next. He was also a South of England Champion, and in 1979/1980, he won the European AAA’s Indoor 200 meter titles.
He went to Moscow Olympics in 1980 to run the 200m, and reached the quarter- final. He also participated in the sprint relay team, which reached the final and placed 4th, a new British record. After winning the U.K. championships 200 in 1982, he attended his second Commonwealth Games. He won a Commonwealth gold with 1980 Olympic 100-metre champion Allan Wells.
