Mike Markuson, born June 15, 1961, is an American gridiron football coaching coach. Most notably, he was the offensive line coach of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Markuson was the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s offensive line coach from January through September 9, 2012.
In 1993, Markuson was hired by Houston Nutt as head coach at Murray State University. Nutt and Markuson transformed the program after two consecutive losing seasons at Murray State University in 1993 and 1994. The Racers had a combined record 22-3 from 1995 to 1996. Nutt was appointed as the Boise State University’s head coach in 1997. Nutt decided to bring Bobby Allen and Markuson, the inside linebackers coach for Murray State and the defensive coordinator, to Boise, Idaho. The Broncos ended the season with a record of 5-6. In December 1997, Nutt was appointed Arkansas Razorbacks’ head coach and brought Markuson in as an offensive line coach. He was also the running game coordinator for the team in 2003. Markuson was a coach in six Arkansas post- season bowl games, including the Florida Citrus Bowl (1999), and two Cotton Bowl Classics (22000, 2002). Markuson’s offensive coaching led to the Razorbacks leading the Southeastern Conference in rush offense for almost five consecutive seasons. Markuson was Arkansas’ offensive line coach from 1998 to his departure to Ole Miss in 2008. Markuson remained in Ole Miss’s roles of offensive line coach and running games coordinator until 2010, when he was promoted as co-offensive director.
UTSA head coach Larry Coker announced Monday February 23, 2015 that he has hired Mike Markuson as an assistant coach. He will tutor the program’s offensive linemen and his appointment is effective March 2, 2015.
He was named the named offensive line coach of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on April 11, 2016.
Markuson was a coach on the South Dakota State defensive line from 1984 to 1985. He returned to Hamline University as a coach for the defensive line in 1986. He accepted a position at Oklahoma State as a graduate assistant coach in 1987. Markuson was offered a position as a graduate assistant at Notre Dame after two seasons at Oklahoma State. He was able to coach the Fighting Irish in the Orange Bowl in January 1990 during his season. After three seasons as an assistant coach in graduate football, Austin Peay State University offered him the coaching position for the offensive line. Since his arrival to Austin Peay, he has been the coach of the offensive line units. After a brief season, he moved to Alabama A&M in 1992. He was appointed the offensive coordinator at Alabama A&M in 1992.

Markuson graduated from Farmington Senior High School, Farmington, Minnesota in 1979. His B.A. was earned at Hamline University. In 1983, he earned his B.A. in psychology from Hamline University. He then went on to earn his M.S. In 1986, he was an athletic administrator at South Dakota State University. Markuson played defensive tackle for Hamline Football Club from 1979 to 1982.
Markuson was an assistant coach and has coached at both the college and high school levels. Markuson was the defensive line coach at Farmington High High, his alma mater. Markuson has coached at nine colleges, spread across the various divisions of NCAA football.
Markuson debuted as the offensive line coach for the Wisconsin Badgers in January 2012, but was fired on September 9, 2012 after just two games, including a 10–7 loss to the Oregon State Beavers.
