Michael Eugene LaValliere, born August 18, 1960, is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He was a Major League Baseball (MLB), catcher for the Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals as well as the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago White Sox.

LaValliere was released from Pittsburgh during the 1993 season and signed a contract to the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox won American League West division, but lost in ALCS to eventual World champion Toronto Blue Jays. LaValliere would stay two more seasons in Chicago, before retiring. He is currently a junior varsity coach, and teaches hitting and catching at IMG Academy in Bradenton.

LaValliere, along with Andy Van Slyke (and Mike Dunne) was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1987 for fellow catcher Tony Pena. Van Slyke and LaValliere were stalwarts of the Pirates’ highly successful early 1990s team, which saw Pittsburgh reach three consecutive National League Championship Series. The Pirates lost all three of their NLCS appearances in 1990 to the eventual World champion Cincinnati Reds. They also lost 1991 and 1992 to Atlanta Braves. LaValliere played in the iconic final play of Game 7 of the 1992 NLCS. Sid Bream, Atlanta’s first baseman, slid to just beat the tag to score the Series-winning run.

In 1981, LaValliere was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies as an Amateur Free Agent.
