He took over from John Wright during their tour to India in August. Later extensions to his contract would have allowed him to continue through the 2019 Cricket World Cup. However, Hesson announced his resignation as the Director of Cricket for Royal Challengers Bangalore in June 2018.

Hesson was New Zealand’s longest-serving cricket coach. Hesson was a calm, brilliant manager, who built a reputation for creating and maintaining a positive team culture while leading the BlackCaps to unparalleled success. Hesson was elected as a representative of the International Cricket Council Cricket Committee in May 2018.

Despite his contract running until the end of 2019 Cricket World Cup, Hesson announced his resignation in June 2018. On January 3 2019, Hesson joined the Sky Sports commentary team for the home white ball series.

Prior to his appointment by New Zealand, he had served as Kenya’s coach, citing “security concerns” as the reason for his resignation.

Hesson won 65, lost 46 and tied. The 1980s results had 122 played, 56 wins and 66 losses. Twenty20 internationals, which were not played in the 1980s, had 56 games completed, with 30 victories, 24 losses, and two tie.
