He was re-elected to Florida’s Senate on November 4, 2008. He served his last term in the Florida Senate, and was re-elected to the position until 2012.
During the 2012 legislative session, Senator Fasano was removed from his chairmanship of the Budget Subcommittee on Criminal and Civil Justice Appropriations for his opposition to a plan to privatize at least 27 prisons in South Florida and turn them over to for-profit companies. Passage of the plan was a major goal of Governor Rick Scott and then Senate President Mike Haridopolos.
Mike Fasano is the Republican Tax Collector of Pasco County. Previously he was a member of the Florida House, representing the 36th District since 2012, a member of the Florida Senate from 2002 through 2012 and a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1994 through 2002.
His fellow senators elected Senator Fasano to be President Pro Tempore of Florida Senate after the 2008 elections. He was appointed the top chief of the Senate by then President Jeff Atwater.

Fasano was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives on November 24, 1994. He was the House’s Majority Whip between 1996 and 1998, Majority Floor Leader 1998-2000, and House Majority Leader 2000-2001.
Fasano was elected first to the Florida Senate on November 2, 2002. He was then re-elected in 2004, 2008, and again in 2008. Between 2008 and 2010, Senator Fasano was President Pro Tempore in the Florida Senate. Senator Fasano represented Senate District 11, which included western Citrus, Pasco, and Pasco counties and northern Pinellas counties.
From 2010 to 2012, Fasano served as chair of the Budget Subcommittee on Criminal and Civil Justice Appropriations. He also served on many other committees in the Florida Senate including: Banking and Insurance; Budget; Budget Subcommittee on Transportation, Tourism, and Economic Development Appropriations; Communications, Energy, and Public Utilities; Governmental Oversight and Accountability; and Health Regulation.
