Ambersley joined AC St. Louis, USSF Division 2 Professional League in March 2010. He scored 9 goals in league play, and 11 overall. Two of his goals came in the US Open Cup. Both were game winners. Ambersley signed with FC Tampa Bay, North American Soccer League’s North American Soccer League, on January 4, 2011, following the death of AC St. Louis. The entire 2011 season was spent with Tampa Bay, where he led the team in all major statistical categories and was named to the NASL’s Best XI Team. The club accepted his 2012 season option on October 4, 2011.

On January 22, 2014, Ambersley signed with to new NASL franchise Indy Eleven.

On January 13, 2015, Ambersley became the first ever signing for new USL Pro franchise Saint Louis FC.

FC Dallas selected Ambersley as the 43rd overall pick in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft on January 20, 2006. Before being released at April 2006, Ambersley had never played in a game with Dallas.

Ambersley was a graduate of De Smet Jesuit High School, where he was an All- American soccer player for the NSCAA and Parade Magazine High School All American teams. He also won the 2000 Missouri Player Award. He played soccer at Indiana University from 2001 to 2005. From 2001 to 2002, he was a member of the U.S. National Team’s Under 20 team. Ambersley was part of the roster on trips to Spain, Mexico, and the Netherlands. After sustaining a back injury in his sophomore year, he was redshirted for the 2003 season. He played in 2002 for the Chicago Fire Premier of Premier Development League during his collegiate offseason. Ambersley played in 82 of the 86 games during his college years at Indiana, where he scored 20 goals and had 20 assists. While at Indiana, he played in two Final Fours scoring 2 goals and 2 assists in four games. Ambersley won the game-winning penalty kick in the 2004 National Championship match.

Ambersley was selected by the Chicago Storm, Major Indoor Soccer League, in the third round. He did not sign with Storm. He instead joined the USL First Division’s Rochester Rhinos. He signed a three year contract with the Atlanta Silverbacks, USL-1 on November 28, 2007. He suffered a knee injury in the pre- season, and he was out for the season. At the end of the season, the Silverbacks pulled out of the league and Ambersley returned home for the 2009 season.

Ambersley signed a contract extension with Tampa Bay through the 2014 season in February 2012. On August 1, 2013, Ambersley was traded to Minnesota United in exchange for forward Etienne Barbara.
