Mick Speight is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on November 1, 1951 in Upton-upon-Severn, England, United Kingdom. Mike Speight, an English ex-footballer, was born in Upton, West Yorkshire, on 1 November 1951. He later spent five months as a Chester City caretaker manager from 1984-1985.

Despite his impressive results, Speight was forced to step aside when Harry McNally, former Wigan Athletic manager, was appointed Chester’s new boss in July 1985. Speight had previously been appointed manager earlier in the year, but he hadn’t signed a contract. He had also been openly critical about the way the club was run, saying that it was “run at an amateur level all the way through”.

Speight played for the club during the 1985-86 season, but he started to look for new opportunities. He took up a Norwegian management position midway through the campaign after having briefly worked with Rhyl. In the late 1980s and early 90s, he was a manager at several Norwegian clubs.

After signing his full professional forms in 1969, Speight was a midfielder for Sheffield United. He made 199 Football League appearances. The highlight of his spell was playing in the England B team on the Oceania and Asia tour. After a testimonial for Blackburn Rovers in 1980, he left the club for an estimated PS60,000. He had rejected Bobby Robson’s Ipswich Town team two years prior. After 51 league appearances with Rovers, he moved on to Grimsby Town during the summer 1982. Speight was able to move on two years later, making 40 more league appearances.

Speight joined Chester in August 1984 as a player-coach to help him achieve his goal of running a Football League team by the age 35. Speight was able to achieve his dream when he was made caretaker manager by John McGrath, which he held until the close of the season. Speight gave the side new faith as it pulled away at the bottom of Division Four. New signing Stuart Rimmer, Everton, proved to be a valuable capture.

He still lives in Norway, where he has been head coach at several clubs, including Sogndal, Moss, Sprint/Jeløy and Mjøndalen. On 23 November 2007, he was appointed offensive coach at Vålerenga.
