Michelle Simmons is one of the richest Computer Scientist from United Kingdom. According to our analysis, Wikipedia, Forbes & Business Insider, Michelle Simmons 's net worth $5 Million. (Last Update: December 11, 2023)
Simmons attended Durham University (Trevelyan College), and studied Physics, Chemistry of Materials (1985-1988). She was a postgraduating student at St Aidan’s College and received a PhD in 1992 on “The characterisation CdTe-based epitaxial cell structures fabricated using MOVPE”. This research was supervised by Andrew W. Brinkman.
Simmons was a Research Fellow in Quantum Electronics in the 1990s with Michael Pepper at Cavendish Laboratory, UK. She gained international recognition for her work on the discovery of the 0.7-feature and the development of hole’ transistors. She was granted a QEII Fellowship in 1999 and was sent to Australia as a founding member of The Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computer Technology. In 2017, she addressed the Australia Day Address for NSW and stressed the importance of setting high standards for students. She stressed that Australians must set high standards and expect students to rise to them. “It’s better to do things that have the greatest rewards; things that are difficult, not easy.” Simmons also condemned the lower standards for physics education in HSC (Higher School Certificate). This curriculum was designed to appeal to girls and replace mathematical problem-solving by qualitative responses. Simmons commented that the curriculum had a “feminized nature”.
Simmons is well-known for creating the field of atomic electronics. Since 2000 she has established a large research group dedicated to the fabrication of atomic scale devices in silicon and germanium using the atomic precision of scanning tunnelling microscopy. Her research group is the only group worldwide that can create atomically precise devices in silicon—they were also the first team in the world to develop a working “perfect” single-atom transistor and the narrowest conducting doped wires in silicon.
