Michael Willems is one of the most popular and richest Canadian photographer who was born on January 1, 1959 in Schiedam, South Holland, Netherlands. Michael Willems, a Canadian photographer and educator of photography was born in 1959. His daily teaching blog and his photo series Contact 2009 are his most well-known works. He also has the book “IV – Intravenous”, which tells the story of two Toronto drug addicts who escaped from addiction.
He won the Halton Police Photo Award in 2008 and the Cogeco/OAC Award for Digital Arts in 2014. Professional Photographers of Ontario granted him a Licentiate (“LPPO”) in 2008. Photosensitive is a Canadian collective of photojournalists whose goal it is to promote social change through photography. He was invited to participate in Photosensitive’s 2013 and 2014 “Picture Change” exhibits. His nudes are also well-known, having been widely displayed, including in Toronto’s historic Distillery District.
In 1988, Willems married Nancy Jean. They had two children: Jason (1990), and Daniel (1994). Jean and Willems separated in 2011. He lives now alone.

Willems was born and raised in Schiedam (The Netherlands) and attended secondary school at Gouda. He moved to the United Kingdom in 1975 and attended Hurtwood House School, Holmbury St Mary. He attended University of London from 1977 to 1981, where he received the degree of BSc (Eng) Electronic Engineering.
He was a telecommunications engineer at Philips between 1980 and 1988. He was able to travel to remote areas such as Libya, Iraq, Nigeria and Nigeria. He claims to have been to 39 countries. He began his active involvement in photography at this time. He was the founder of Ixonet Marketing Technology, Bussum (Netherlands), from 1988 to 1995. He moved to Canada in 1995 and joined KL Group, where he was the Channel Sales Director. From 2000 to 2010, he was Chief Technology Officer of Digital View, then EnQii. He began his career as a newspaper photographer during this period. In addition, he also started teaching at Henrys School of Imaging. He became a full-time photographer and educator in 2010.
He regularly holds solo exhibits of his work. He has been published in many newspapers and magazines, including the National Post, the Toronto Star, the Toronto Sun, The Globe and Mail; and he has appeared on TV and radio, including CBC Radio, Sun News, Naked News, and TWIP – This Week in Photo.
