Swart, a Perth native, was part of the WA state’s under-19 teams that were captained in 2000 and 2001 by Shaun Marsh and Brett Jones. He did not make his senior debut with the Warriors until January 2010 despite having scored well for Joondalup’s grade-cricket team. He made a duck in his first List A match, but he scored an impressive 83 against Tasmania in his debut Sheffield Shield match. He was granted a contract by the Warriors for the 2010-11 seasons in May 2010. In October 2010, he scored his maiden century against Victoria at WACA Ground.

Swart missed the World Cup but continued to play 12 One Day Internationals, 26 Twenty20 Internationals and the 2014 ICC World Twenty20. He was also the vice- captain of the team and captained two games in which Peter Borren was not available. After a 2016 tour to the UAE, he was removed from the national team and told that his services weren’t needed anymore.

In February 2011 Swart was dropped from the Warriors squad after being charged with assaulting an opponent, Billy Godleman, in a grade cricket match between Joondalup and Bayswater-Morley. He was later found guilty by the WACA tribunal and suspended for three matches, with the tribunal rejecting his defence that he was only acting in self-defence. The following week the conviction and suspension was overturned upon appeal.
