He is a Gaelic footballer for Longford GAA, Killoe Young Emmets, and was a former professional Australian rules soccer player with Essendon Football Club in Australia’s Football League (AFL).

Quinn returned to Ireland in 2012 and joined the Longford intercounty soccer team. Longford won the Div 4 title in 2011, and played in Div 3. They went on to win a second league championship, beating Wexford in final. Quinn was playing at the centre back. Longford won the Longford county championship in 2012 upon their return.

Quinn was initially expected to be trained by the Victorian Football League affiliate, the Bendigo Bombers. However, Quinn made remarkable progress with the oval ball and performed admirably in an intra-club match. Matthew Knights demanded that Quinn train with the senior team after the match. His performance saw him be selected for the Essendon team for the 2009 NAB Cup. The match was originally scheduled to take place in Darwin, Northern Territory. However, it was moved to Melbourne as a tribute match to the Black Saturday bushfires. Quinn’s Australian host family had made travel plans for Quinn and brought him to Darwin during the lead-up to his debut match.
