He was the youngest child of Ute Mronz, a gallerist, and Johannes Mronz. At an early age, he was keen to get involved in sports. Alexander Mronz, Alexander’s brother, is a former professional tennis player. While studying Economics at Gottingen, Mronz started organizing tennis tournaments. He received his Economics degree at the University of Cologne in 1999. In addition, he was a Business graduate.

Since October 1, 1997 Mronz, who is not a rider, has been the General Manager at the Aachener Reitturnier GmbH. (ART), which is responsible to market the CHIO Aachen, the biggest equestrian event worldwide. Mronz’s experience in this role led to him being appointed Head of Organising Committee for the World Equestrian Games 2006, which is the second-largest sporting event in Germany, after the Football World Cup. This event was the first to close on a positive result since 1990 when the Equestrian and Driving World Championships were established. The FEI World Equestrian Games’ great success earned Michael Mronz the title of “Sports Manager-of-the Year” by the trade magazine “Horizont”.

In his capacity as Marketing Director, Mronz was responsible for the marketing and ticketing of the World Athletics Championships in 2009 in Berlin.

Mronz was the partner of German FDP politician Guido Westerwelle from 2003 to 2016, when Westerwelle died of leukaemia. Mronz and Westerwelle entered into a registered civil partnership in Bonn on September 17, 2010, at a time when Westerwelle was serving as Germany’s Foreign Minister under Chancellor Angela Merkel.

It was renamed Michael Mronz e.K. In November 2016, he renamed the organization Michael Mronz e.K. He organizes events like marathons, equestrian events, tennis, beach volleyball, and hockey tournaments. Mronz provides advice to individuals, clubs and companies on matters related to sports sponsorship and marketing. He also manages the marketing of major TV events such as the Wok World Championships of Stefan Raab, the Bundesvision Song Contest, and the TV Total Diving Competition.
