Michael Curtis McCrary, born July 7, 1970, is an ex- American football player. He was a defensive end for both the Seattle Seahawks (NFL) and the Baltimore Ravens (NFL) for ten seasons between 1993 and 2002. McCrary was a Pro Bowler twice in 1998 and 1999. McCrary was inducted into the Ravens Ring of Honor for 2004. McCrary now provides commentary on the Ravens’ games on WBAL AM.
McCrary was the Ravens’ starting defensive end in 1998. He played alongside veteran defensive tackles Keith Washington and Tony Siragusa. McCrary was the leader in quarterback sacks and second in tackles in 1998. McCrary was also elected to the Pro Bowl that year along with five of his Ravens teammates: Ray Lewis, Jermaine Lewis and Peter Boulware. McCrary was 2nd on the franchise sack list, 3rd behind Terrell Sugs (125 QB bags) and Peter Boulware (70% QB bags). McCrary was forced to retire due to injuries.
McCrary was selected by the Seattle Seahawks (7th round) in the 1993 NFL Draft. After four seasons playing as a defensive end and on special teams, McCrary left the team to go to Baltimore in 1996.

McCrary’s mother was keen to have him placed in day care, which was just across the street from McCrary’s home as a young boy. The day care was not racially mixed and McCrary’s mother sued it to grant Michael admission. In 1976, the case was referred to the United States Supreme Court Runyon against McCrary. One of the justices that disapproved was former football star Byron White. Twenty-five years later, McCrary won the Byron White NFL Man of the year Award. He also attended George C. Marshall high school.
McCrary was a college football player at Wake Forest University in 1989-92. He set school records for sacks per season (16) as well as in a career (30), records that he still holds.
On August 21, 2003, McCrary announced his retirement.
