Michael Kim is one of the most popular and richest American professional golfer who was born on January 26, 1964 in Seoul, South Korea. He was an athlete in three sports for FHS basketball, football and baseball. He was a letterman for three years in football. He was a wide receiver and quarterback, and was all-conference as a punter in the 1981 season. Kim, a four-year baseball letterman, was twice named to the all conference team and twice to the all district team as an outfielder.
In 1991, he received a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri.
Kim joined ESPN as one of the original presenters on ESPNEWS prior to its November 1, 1996, launch. In his 17 years at ESPN, he has also contributed as an anchor to ESPN’s SportsCenter and other ESPNEWS and information programming including First Take and NHL 2Night.
He delivered the commencement address at Westminster College in May 2008 when he was awarded an honorary doctorate degree.
He worked for NewsChannel 8 from 1991 to 1996. He was there when he won an Emmy for his sports reporting on “Local Heroes” which was also recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists as the “Best Sports Series.” The National Association of Black Journalists awarded him the “Best Sports Feature” award.
