He was originally scheduled to compete in the main GP2 Series in 2008, but was replaced initially by Giacomo Ricci of the David Price Racing team. Ricci was replaced by Andy Soucek after two rounds. Herck continued to heal. Magny-Cours was his GP2 debut. DPR continued to be his partner for the 2008-09 GP2 Asia Series and the 2009 GP2 Series seasons. Herck was sixth in the feature race at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve. His first GP2 points were withdrawn due to DPR machine problems. He finished seventh in the Abu Dhabi round’s feature race, earning his first points. Herck had just overtaken Max Chilton in the sprint race and was on his way to his first podium finish and victory in the series. But Davide Valsecchi passed him shortly before the race ended. Herck finished thirteenth in championship standings.
Herck continued his improved form in the 2010 main series, finishing in the points on a number of occasions. He also qualified on pole position for his “home” race in Belgium, but lost it due to an infringement. He finished sixteenth in the drivers’ championship.
Following a disappointing 2011 season in the main GP2 Series, Herck decided not to compete in the 2011 GP2 Final non-championship race in Abu Dhabi, and retired from professional motor racing in order to focus on his studies, as later confirmed by adoptive parent André Herck.
He drove the Formula Renault 3.5 Series for Comtec Racing in 2007, but did not score any points.

Herck began karting in 2003. He then moved to Formula Renault Monza Winter Series 2003. The following year, he competed in the entire series. With five wins and 375 points, he won the 2004 championship. He won the Spanish 1.6-litre series championship in 2004.
