After losing to Kerry in the Connacht semi-final, Donnellan & Gallway won the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. Galway lost to Roscommon in Connacht’s semi-final. Galway then entered the back-door qualifiers. They defeated Wicklow Armagh, Cork and Cork to reach quarter-finals. They defeated Roscommon by 0-14 to 1-05 to reach the semi-finals. Donnellan was first known as a member the talented St Jarlath’s College Tuam team in the early nineties. Along with future Galway teammates Declan Meehan and Tomas Meehan as well as Tommy Joyce, Tommy Joyce, Tommy Joyce, Tommy Joyce, and John Divilly, Donnellan played a key role in the 1994 Hogan Cup winning season. The team reached the Connacht final in the next year, but fell to their closest rivals, St. Patrick’s College Tuam. Joyce would be his star with Tralee IT, which won the 1998 Sigerson Cup.
