Michael Behonick, born January 3, 1981 in Bohemia (New York), is an American former soccer player who played last for the Puerto Rico Islanders, USL First Division. Behonick is currently an assistant coach for the Pittsburgh Panthers men’s soccer team.
He was signed by the Islanders half-way through the season to be second string goalie for Josh Saunders. He sustained a leg injury while in camp with the Puerto Rico National Team, which left him sidelined for five months. This also ended his chances of becoming the first goalkeeper for Puerto Rico Islanders since Josh Saunders had retired. He was recalled to the Puerto Rico Islanders in July 2008 as Bill Gaudette’s backup.
He was sent by the Battery to Harrisburg City Islanders on a loan in 2004. He played seven games there. He was signed by the New York Red Bulls in 2006 as their third-choice goalkeeper, behind Jon Conway and Tony Meola. He was sent on loan by the Red Bulls to the Long Island Rough Riders, before being released at the end. After passing the trial in early 2007, he joined Crystal Palace Baltimore. After a trial in early 2007, he was selected as the first goalkeeper. However, he lost several games and was eventually replaced by Brian Rowland.
