Michael Albano, born November 6, 1950, is a politician and college professor who lives in Longmeadow (Massachusetts). He was the former mayor and Massachusetts Governor’s Counselor for the 8th District of western Massachusetts. Albano started his public service career in 1974 as a Westfield District Court Probation Officer. In 1982, Governor Edward J. appointed him to the Massachusetts State Parole Board. King, and was reappointed in 1987 by Governor Michael S. Dukakis. Albano was appointed a member of the Special Parole Board by Governor William Weld in 1992. Joseph DeNucci, the State Auditor, appointed Albano as an Audit Specialist in 1994. Before his election to Governor’s Council in 1994, Albano’s was a member of the Springfield School Committee (1985-1989) (one 4-year term); and the Springfield City Council (1991-1995) (two 2-year terms). 1995. Albano was the 1994 and 1995 Council presidents. Albano was elected mayor in 1995. He served four terms of two-year term, before he resigned in 2003.

Albano declared on January 29, 2016 that he would be running for the Democratic Nomination as Sheriff of Hampden County.

Albano was elected to Governor’s Council on November 6, 2012. He represents the Massachusetts counties of Franklin, Hampshire, Berkshire, Berkshire, and Hampden.

Albano defeated Robert Markel, the incumbent mayor, in 1995’s mayoral preliminary.
