Melissa Bean is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on January 22, 1962 in Chicago, United States. Melissa Luburich Bean, born January 22, 1962, is an American politician. She was the U.S. Rep for Illinois’ 8th congressional district between 2005 and 2011. Bean is a member the Democratic Party.
The Republicans were faced with the task of campaigning for a seat that was once thought to be safe. They tried to keep Crane in power. Bean won the election with 52% of votes on November 2, 2004. Bean won the district with 56% vote. George W. Bush won it in the 2004 presidential election. However, Barack Obama, the US Senate candidate, carried the district. Since its inception in 1935, she is the first Democrat elected to represent the district. The district was the 10th District between 1935 and 1949, the 13th between 1949 and 1973, and the 12th from 1973 through 1993. It has been the 8th ever since 1993.
On other issues, Bean opposed President Bush’s troop “surge” in Iraq. In a February 2006 speech given before the surge had been fully implemented, Bean said, “regrettably, this surge does not constitute a new course.” On social issues, Bean is pro-choice and voted in support of Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, health care reform. Bean was one of four Democrats to vote against the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010, joining 155 of 159 Republicans, blocking the vote (which needed a 2/3 majority to pass, as it was brought to vote under a motion to suspend rules).
Bean’s business and financial record includes opposing a bill that would have allowed for drilling for oil in Lake Michigan which is a large source of drinking water for her district. She has departed from the Democrats in voting in May 2006 to extend about $70 billion in tax cuts (she was one of just 15 Democrats to back the legislation), voting to permanently reduce the estate tax, and voting in favor of a presidential line-item veto. Similarly, she is one of only 15 Democrats to vote in favor of the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA). In 2009, she voted for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and the American Clean Energy and Security Act. She was a co-sponsor of the Employee Free Choice Act.
In the general election, Bean faced David McSweeney (winner of the six- candidate Republican primaries). All three major newspapers in her area endorsed Bean, just like in 2004. McSweeney was defeated by Bean, 51% to 44 percent.

Melissa Bean is one of the richest Politician from United States. According to our analysis, Wikipedia, Forbes & Business Insider, Melissa Bean 's net worth $5 Million. (Last Update: December 11, 2023)
Bean was a graduate of Maine East High School. She graduated from Oakton Community College in 1982 with an associate’s degree and Roosevelt University in 2002, with a bachelor’s degree. Before her election to Congress she was the president of Sales Resources Inc., a home-based company.
Bean ran in 2002 against Phil Crane (73-year-old Republican incumbent for the 8th District), a 33 year incumbent. Bean attacked Crane’s countless lobbyist- funded travels. Although she lost, she won 43% of the vote. She had received very limited funding from the national party, which was surprising. The 8th was historically the most Republican area in Chicago, and some reports say it was also the most Republican in Illinois. Bean’s performance was made even more remarkable by the fact that the 8th had been redrawn to help Crane.
Bean sought a rematch against Crane in 2004. During the campaign, Bean raised almost as much money as Crane, mostly from individual donors, whereas Crane’s money came mostly from political action committees. Her strong showing in 2002 led the national party to pump a large amount of money into her campaign. Bean was endorsed by the Daily Herald, the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun- Times—the three major newspapers in her district.
