Maya Jribi is one of the most popular and richest Tunisian Politician who was born on January 29, 1960 in Bu Aradah, Tunisia. Maya Jribi, born January 29, 1960 and died May 19, 2018, was a Tunisian politician. She was the leader and founder of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) from 2006 to 2012. She was the secretary-general of the centrist party from April 2012 when the PDP merged into the Republican Party.
Jribi was the head of the PDP’s electoral listing in Ben Arous in October 2011 for the Constituent Assembly Elections. Preliminary election results show that the PDP received one seat in Ben Arous. The PDP merged with secularist parties to create the Republican Party on 9 April 2012. Maya Jribi was elected the leader of this new party.
In March 2018, the Center for Research, Studies, Documentation and Information on Women paid tribute to her for her noble political life.
Between 1 and 20 October 2007, Jribi and Najib Chebbi participated in a hunger strike protesting the forced removal of the party’s headquarters to Tunis. This had serious consequences for her health.

Maya Jribi, Ahmed Najib Chebbi and Maya Tsaib Chebbi co-founded Progressive Socialist Rally in 1983. It was later renamed to the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP). She has been a member the party’s executive since 1986. Jribi was elected Secretary-General of PDP on 25 December 2006. She was the first woman to head a Tunisian political party.
