He signed an 18-month contract with Portadown in December 2010. There was also the possibility of a 12-month extension. With 27 goals, he was the club’s top scorer in the 2011-12 season.
Tipton went into management in 2016, taking the reins from long-serving Warrenpoint Town manager Barry Gray, who had managed the club from the Mid- Ulster Football League into the NIFL Premiership, but had been relegated to the NIFL Championship by the time he stood down. In his first season, Tipton’s side claimed the Championship and the Mid-Ulster Cup.
He signed for Linfield in May 2012 on a two-year contract, and in 2014 joined Ballymena United. He scored 19 goals for the Sky Blues in his debut season. On 24 March 2016, Tipton, having had trouble recovering from a knee injury, left Ballymena. Upon leaving the club, he stated that he was keen to explore alternative options in football.
After his time at Bury ended, he joined Conference North side Hyde United. He moved to Droylsden, his local rivals, a season later. In Droylsden’s 1-0 giant-killing win over Darlington, he scored the only goal. He was a trialist at Macclesfield Town on 18 July 2009, and played in the 3-0 defeat to Middlesbrough. On 24 July 2009, he signed a 1-year contract with Macclesfield.

Tipton began his career at Oldham Athletic, moving up through the Youth ranks to make his debut when he was just 17. He moved to League Two side Macclesfield Town in 2002. This was where he had his best spell.
