Mott announced on 20 August 2013 that he would be retiring from Glamorgan following the conclusion of the season. Mott was a member of the Queensland Bulls and Victorian Bushrangers. In 1995, he was a member of the Australian Cricket Academy. He was a left-handed batsman and made his first-class debut for Queensland in 1994-95. Although he was not a regular player in the team, he made a vital 86 in Queensland’s 1996-97 Sheffield Shield Final. He moved to Victoria in 1998-99 and performed well, securing his place in the top order. He scored centuries against New South Wales, Western Australia in his first season. To help Victoria reach the final for only the ninth time in nine years, he made 841 first-class runs that summer. He was part of a partnership that opened the way for 223 runs with Jason Arnberger, which was a highlight in his career. In 2004, he finished his 66-game season with 3723 runs at 33.84 and 7 hundreds.
After two years as an assistant coach, Mott was appointed coach of New South Wales Blues in 2007-08. New South Wales won Pura Cup in his first season as coach.
