Matteo Sereni is one of the most popular and richest Italian footballer who was born on February 11, 1975 in Parma, Italy. Matteo Sereni, born 11 February 1975, is an Italian retired football goalkeeper.
He moved to Lazio in 2003 for EUR550,000 to challenge Angelo Peruzzi for the top goalkeeping position. He played in the Coppa Italia Final 2004 against Juventus F.C. for the club. He played in matches in 2005 UEFA Intertoto Cup. Lazio lost to Olympique de Marseille.
In June 2007 he signed for Torino in a free transfer to replace Christian Abbiati, signed a 2-year contract. In November 2008, he signed a new contract which last until June 2011.
After divorcing his ex-wife Silvia, Sereni was accused of having raped their daughter during a 2009 holiday on Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda. He denied the charges. In 2015, Sereni was found guilty, and was sentenced to three years and six months in prison. In July 2017, Sereni’s conviction was annulled on appeal and he was scheduled a new trial in Turin.
1999 saw Sereni return to Sampdoria as Serie B player. He made 75 of 76 Serie B appearances. He was signed by Ipswich Town, UEFA Cup rival, for PS4.5 million in 2001. This is the club’s highest transfer fee. He was unable to avoid being relegated with Ipswich, and was instead loaned to Brescia for 2002.

Sereni was born in Parma and began his career at UC Sampdoria. In 1994, he was loaned to A.C. Crevalcore. After only 10 games at Sampdoria, he was transferred to Piacenza Calcio. He helped the club avoid relegation in Serie B. However, he was transferred to Empoli F.C. in 1998, and he was not able to avoid relegation.
At 16 years old, he was selected for the international Italian under-17 team. He also played for the national under-23 team of Italy at the 1997 Mediterranean Games. Italy was the champions.
In January 2006 he was loaned out to Treviso, with Samir Handanović going to Lazio on loan in return. He returned to Lazio for the 2006–07 campaign, but did not play a single match, being excluded from the roster for the whole season.
