Matt Plumb was the son of Michael Plumb (and Donnan Sharp) on the 8th July 1974. His father, an Olympic equestrian rider who was also inducted into the United States Olympic Hall of Fame, was Matt Plumb. His mother participated in the 1968 Summer Olympics. Lufkin & Jenrette Matt began a career as auto racing drivers after completing a bachelor’s degree in history and economics from the University of Virginia.
Plumb made his debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2002. Plumb was sixteenth overall in the Seikel Motorsport Porsche 996 GT3RS. Plumb then returned to full-time racing for 2003. In a BMW 325, he made his debut in SPEED Touring Car Championship. At Lime Rock Park Plumb finished second behind Pierre Kleinubing. Plumb was named the SPEED Touring Car Championship Rookie-of-the Year. Plumb changed to an Acura TSX the following season and was again in the series. Plumb was first at Mosport and Mid-Ohio. He finished third in the standings.
In 2014 Plumb was voted into the Road Racing Drivers Club.
Plumb’s 1999 season was difficult. He only placed in the top ten in five of his five races. The young driver managed to secure his first podium finish in professional racing at the end of the season. Plumb finished third at Homestead-Miami Speedway, just behind Jon Fogarty and Todd Snyder. Plumb’s performance was significantly better for the 2000 Barber Dodge Pro Series season. The driver from Rhode Island was consistent in the top ten and won his first Barber Dodge Pro Series race. Plumb won at Vancouver the first Barber Dodge Pro Series race that was not run in the United States of America. 2001 was his fourth year in the Barber Dodge Pro Series. He also found this to be his most rewarding year. Plumb won the races at Laguna Seca and Detroit after a difficult start that included two retirements. Plumb also finished third in the standings, equal to Sepp Koster. The Dutchman took second place because Koster had more wins that Plumb.

Matt Plumb, born 8 July 1974, is a racing driver. He has competed previously in the Barber Dodge Pro Series. Matt Plumb is also the team manager for Rum Bum Racing, which is a GT and sportscar racing team.
Plumb began his racing career in 1997-98 Skip Barber Formula Dodge Southern Race Series. Sebring International Raceway was the first place that Plumb won. Plumb won ten races and won the series. Plumb won the championship against Pete Boss, Giandomenico Brunsatin and he was also nominated to the Big Scholarship runoffs. Matt Plumb competed in three Barber Dodge Pro Series races in 1998, which was the maximum number of Big Scholarship nominated drivers. Plumb finished in the top ten at Homestead-Miami Speedway, and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Plumb won the Big Scholarship, but he was able to drive full-time in the 1999 Barber Dodge Pro Series.
For 2005 Plumb joined JMB Racing to race in the Rolex Sports Car Series GT class. Racing the Ferrari 360 Modena was not a success. The team’s best result was at the 250 mile race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The team finished 28th overall, tenth in class. For 2006 Matt joined his brother Hugh Plumb at Bill Fenton Motorsports in the Grand-Am Cup. The combination was a success. The two brothers won races at Barber Motorsports Park and Virginia International Raceway. The duo ended up runners-up in the championship standings and helped Acura win the manufacturers championship. The following years Matt continued to run a partial schedule in the Grand-Am Cup/KONI Challenge Series with reasonable success. In 2009 Plumb joined Rum Bum Racing LLC as a driver and team manager. In their inaugural Continental Tire Sports Car Championship the team finished fifth in the GS class. Plumb continued to be a front runner in the series. In 2011 Plumb won three races and finished third in the championship. In 2012 Plumb and co-driver Nick Longhi won the prestigious championship. The duo won three races and scored an additional four podium finishes.
