Matthew Ryan Mauck, born February 12, 1979, is an American football quarterback who was a professional player in the National Football League (NFL), for the Denver Broncos (now the Tennessee Titans). He played college football for Louisiana State University and won the 2003 national championship.

After the 2003 season, Mauck decided to make it a pro. The Denver Broncos selected him in the 2004 NFL Draft with the 225th selection in the 7th Round. Although he was on the roster, he did not play in any of the 2004 games. He signed with the Tennessee Titans in 2005. He was able to appear in two games that season, including one in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ final regular-season game.

Mauck entered the 2006 NFL offseason on the Tennessee Titans roster, but was cut at the end of the preseason. He became expendable after the Titans drafted Vince Young and signed free agent quarterback Kerry Collins. However, he was signed back to the Titans’ practice squad after week 2, after third-string quarterback Billy Volek was traded to the San Diego Chargers.

Mauck is a 2011 graduate of the University of Colorado School of Dentistry, and currently works as a dentist in Aurora, CO.

Mauck was the starting quarterback in 2002. He beat Marcus Randall, Rick Clausen, and Rick Clausen to the position. Mauck led the Tigers to an impressive 5-1 start but suffered a broken foot in the sixth game. After the injury, the Tigers fell to an 8-5 record.

Mauck was a great baseball and football player at Jasper High School, Jasper, Indiana. He helped to lead Jasper High School’s baseball team to the 1996 and 1997 state baseball championships. In 1995, he was also a defensive back and quarterback for the football team that reached the state finals. In 1997, he originally signed a contract to play quarterback at Michigan State for Nick Saban. After being drafted in the sixth round, 1997 MLB Draft, he decided to sign a Major League Baseball contract for the Chicago Cubs. He had previously committed to playing college football. After three years of playing in the Cubs minor league, he returned to college to continue his football career.

Mauck accepted an LSU football offer in 2000. Nick Saban was the coach at LSU at the time, and he was the same coach that recruited Mauck to play football at Michigan State three year earlier. Saban had recently accepted an offer to LSU and was searching for depth at the position of quarterback. Mauck saw very little action in 2001, after being redshirted during 2000. Mauck’s first major action was during the 2001 SEC Championship Game. He came off the bench to take over for Rohan Davey, an injured starting quarterback. Mauck ran for two touchdowns leading the Tigers underdogs to a 31-20 win over the #2 Tennessee Volunteers.

He returned as the starting quarterback for his junior season in 2003, and led LSU to its best season in 45 years. He set an LSU record, throwing 28 touchdowns during the season. LSU finished the regular season with an 11-1 record, and then beat Georgia 34-13 in the 2003 SEC Championship Game. The victory helped the Tigers earn a berth in the 2003 BCS Championship Game, the 2004 Sugar Bowl vs. Oklahoma. Mauck did not have a great game in the Sugar Bowl, throwing two interceptions and no touchdowns. However, the Tigers won the game 21-14, earning LSU the BCS National Championship.
