Magill was selected by the Dodgers in 31st round 2008 MLB Draft from Royal High School, Simi Valley, California. He was a member of the Gulf Coast Dodgers, Ogden Raptors, Great Lakes Loons, and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. He was 11-8 with a 3.76 ERA for the AA Chattanooga Lookouts and was named to the Southern League Midseason All-Star Team. After the season, the Dodgers added him on the 40-man roster and promoted him to AAA Albuquerque Isotopes in order to begin 2013.
On April 27, 2013, he was called up to Majors for the very first time to face the Milwaukee Brewers. He pitched 6.2 innings, allowing only two runs and striking out seven. Magill made three more starts for the Dodgers before being optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque, May 20. In his four starts, he had no records and a 5.00 ERA. Magill was called up to make an emergency start on June 2 in Hyun-Jin Ryu’s place. Magill spent 2014 with the Isotopes where he was both a starter as well as a reliever. He played in 36 games, and he started 12 of them. He was 7-6 and had a 5.21 ERA.
On January 24, 2018, Magill signed a minor league contract with the Minnesota Twins. His contract was selected by the Twins on April 28. Magill spent the remainder of the season pitching out of the bullpen, appearing in 40 games. He struck out 56 in 56 ⁄3 innings. He went 2–0 with a 4.45 ERA in 28 innings for the Twins in 2019, before being designated for assignment on July 21.
