Kobyluck started his career at Waterford Speedbowl, Connecticut in 1993 as a Late Model driver. He was able to navigate the 3/8 mile bullring with ease and won numerous top-five and top-10 awards. He was admired by his ease behind the wheel and soon he was asked to pilot a Modified car. Kobyluck was looking for new challenges after his continued success.
The native of Uncasville moved to Stafford Motor Speedway’s Pro Stock Division in 1997. As he looked forward, Kobyluck was able to overcome the 1/2-mile track to compete in NASCAR’s most prestigious regional series, the NASCAR Camping World East Series (then known as the Busch North Series). In 1998, Kobyluck was involved in an accident at Stafford. He sustained extensive injuries in the crash. Kobyluck was able to return to the wheel in August 1998, well ahead of his doctor’s recovery time. Matt made his NASCAR Camping World Series debut in New Hampshire Motor Speedway that fall with Mohegan Sun Casino.
In September 2008, Kobyluck clinched the 2008 NASCAR Camping World Series Championship with a third-place finish at Dover International Speedway. Kobyluck is the first Native American to win a championship in the series. Kobyluck then finished off his 2008 season in January 2009 by winning a second Toyota All-Star Showdown.
