2012 was the year that saw Lauda be a part of Michael Bartels’ Vita4One Racing Team in the now defunct FIA GT1 World Championship, which saw him finish 12th overall in the standings, alongside Nikolaus Mayr-Melnhof on the BMW Z4 GT3 (Bartels himself was 3rd in the same season). Additionally, Lauda was 3rd in the 2012 Spa 24 Hours, again with a Vita4One-affiliated BMW.
In the absence of any significant results in single-seater race, Lauda was able to switch his focus toward touring automobiles. Since 2006, he has competed with the german-based Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters series with Mercedes-Benz and in 2008 and 2009 he paired the racing of the Speedcar Series.

Lauda was born in the midst of his father’s resignation from F1. In contrast to many drivers who began their careers in the karting circuit, Lauda debuted in 2002 in Formula Nissan 2000. He also raced at two events of German Formula VW and one race of Spanish Formula Three. He was a part of the World Series Lights in 2003 along with the Vergani team. The team then changed later in the year to Formula 3000, the Euro Formula 3000 Series. In 2004, he raced for the team in Formula 3000, completing the whole season in Coloni Motorsport. Lauda was a participant at the time of the 2005 GP2 Series for the Coloni team, along with the former Formula One driver Gianmaria Bruni. Lauda was among one or two competitors during that first GP2 season that had the full season of F3000 experiences behind the team.
