Bailey was involved in four matches for the first team in Glanford Park without scoring. The club returned him to Stockport in October of 2004 and made the first time he played under McIlroy was in the 2-0 loss to Wrexham during the Football League Trophy. McIlroy was dismissed in the latter part of November and was replaced with Chris Turner. Bailey made his debut in the league in the team of Chris Turner during the League One game against Chesterfield as a substitute in the 89th minute to replace Mark Robertson. However, despite never being able to make it into the first team throughout the season, and Crewe’s demotion into League One, he was granted a one-year extension. In the season 2006-07, Bailey was in the same situation as last season’s, not able to make it into the first team , and being sent on loan for Barrow from Barrow of the Conference North, for whom played in ten games.
