Masashi Hamauzu is one of the most popular and richest Composer who was born on September 20, 1971 in Munich, Germany. Masashi Hamauzu (Bang Wo Zheng Zhi , Hamauzu Masashi born on September 20th 1971) is a Japanese composer arranger, pianist, and lyricist. Hamauzu was employed by Square Enix from 1996 to the year 2010, was well-known at the time for his work in his work on the Final Fantasy and SaGa video game series. Born to a musical family in Germany, Hamauzu was raised in Japan. He was attracted to music in the kindergarten years, and started taking piano lessons from his parents.
Following the departure of Nobuo Uematsu’s departure from Square Enix in 2004, Hamauzu was appointed the primary composer for the music department of the company. The sole composer was of Final Fantasy XIII. He is also an internationally-acclaimed pianist, who arranges for other composers. His music blends different styles, however he generally employs ambient and classical music in his compositions. In 2010 Hamauzu quit Square Enix to start his own studio, MONOMUSIK.
The year 2002 was the time that Hamauzu wrote his music in 2002 to accompany Unlimited Saga, a game which was criticized by reviewers due to a range of game-play issues. Following the departure of Uematsu of Square Enix in 2004, Hamauzu was appointed the primary composer for the music team of the company. He incorporates a variety of styles of music into his compositions, but for the majority of his tunes use traditional and ambient tones in his compositions. In 2005 Hamauzu Nakano together with the group Wavelink Zeal (Takayuki and Yuki Iwai) composed Musashi: Samurai Legend, the sequel to 1998’s release Brave Fencer Musashi. Hamauzu wrote the highly anticipated, yet critically panned Final Fantasy VII follow-up, Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII in the year 2006. In the same year, he orchestrated his version of the Sailing to the World Piano Score on the instruction of Mitsuda. The album was well-received by the public and confirmed Hamauzu’s status as a top piano arranger for games music for videogames.

A huge fan of Final Fantasy games, Hamauzu was able to decide to apply for a position at Square. Nobuo Uematsu was in awe by his resume and hired Hamauzu as a student in the year 1996. His debut was with the title of 1996 Front Mission: Gun Hazard featuring Uematsu, Yasunori Mitsuda, and Junya Nakano. The that same year, the composer composed four tracks for a multi-composer title, Tobal No. 1. When working with Nakano in the games, Hamauzuzu was impressed by his style of music and became friends. They have since worked on various games. Hamauzu’s debut solo project was in 1997, with Chocobo No Fushigina Dungeon. After the release of the title, Hamauzu and Yasuo Sako came up with Chocobo no Fushigina Dungeon Coi Vanni Gialli which was an orchestrated album featuring orchestral tracks taken from the game’s soundtrack. The soundtrack as well as Coi Vanni Gialli received praise. The soundtrack for Final Fantasy VII, Hamauzu was the synthesizer programmers for the performance to Joseph Haydn’s “The Creation”, and was the bass singer in the chorus of eight people for “One-Winged Angel”.
The year 1999 was the time that Hamauzu got the task of the music for SaGa Frontier 2, replacing the SaGa series’ composer for a long time, Kenji Ito. He was a bit hesitant to conform to the musical style Ito created for the show However, he soon realized that he wanted to develop his own distinctive style. It was through this project that he introduced himself synthesizer programmers Ryo Yamazaki who has collaborated with on many of his other soundtracks. The Hamauzu team also published Piano Pieces “SF2” ~ Rhapsody on the Theme of SaGa Frontier 2 which is an album that features piano parts of the game’s soundtrack. In 2001, Nakano and Hamauzu Nakano were chosen to help Uematsu in the creation of music for highly well-received Final Fantasy X, based on their capability to compose music that was not in Uematsu’s style. Hamauzu also contributed to the Piano Collections arranged album of the game that Hamauzu described as the most challenging piece of work he had ever done as well as the track called “feel”, an arrangement of “Hymn of the Fayth” of the EP Feel/Go Dream. Yuna and Tidus.
Hamauzu released a solo album, Vielen Dank, in 2007 after recording it in Munich, Germany. The album includes eleven piano pieces that he composed for personal pleasure after the creation of Piano Pieces “SF2” ~ Rhapsody on a Theme of SaGa Frontier 2 as well as 14 arrangements of his game compositions. Two tracks from the album were performed at the 2007 Symphonic Game Music Concert in Leipzig. In 2008, he composed the soundtrack to Sigma Harmonics, with synthesizer programming by Mitsuto Suzuki rather than Yamazaki. At the 2006 E3 event, a Square Enix press conference revealed that Hamauzu would be returning to the Final Fantasy series, scoring Final Fantasy XIII. He left Square Enix on January 19, 2010. He went on to form his own studio, Monomusik, which he described as a personal studio that did not include any other composers. Despite leaving Square Enix, Hamauzu was still hired to score various games by the company, including Final Fantasy XIII-2, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, World of Final Fantasy, and the high definition version of Final Fantasy X. Outside of the Final Fantasy series, Hamauzu also wrote music for games such as Half-Minute Hero: The Second Coming, The Legend of Legacy, and The Alliance Alive in the 2010s.
