in 2003 Maryam used her experiences growing up between Iran in her home country of the United States to direct her debut feature film, The Color of Love. A personal portrait of the shifting world of love and politics in Iran The documentary screened at international festivals like Montreal World Film Fest, Full Frame Doc Festival, MoMA New York, It’s All True (Brazil) and many more; it won top awards like The International Documentary Association’s David L. Wolper Award, Jury Award at DocuDays as well as The Full Frame’s Spectrum Award. Color of Love Color of Love has been shown internationally, and was made available on DVD through Parlour Pictures, and was seen in Danny DeVito’s Jersey Docs, a subsidiary of Morgan Freeman’s ClickStar.
As of 2005 Maryam came back to Argentina and been studying Latin American literature at the University of Buenos Aires. She wrote and directed the documentary The Day I Died about an adolescent love triangle set in an unassuming Argentine coastal town. The Day I Died has been played at Main Competition at Mar del Plata and Clermont-Ferrand. New York Film Festival in addition to the Berlin International Film Festival. Day I Died Day I Died became the sole short film from Berlinale to be awarded two prizes including the Gold Teddy Best Short Film and the Jury Prize Special Mention. The film also took home the Jury Prize at the Rio International Film Fest. The film is included in the compilation DVD produced by Shooting People entitled BEST v BEST VOL. 2: AWARD-WINNING FILMS 2006.
