Martina Anderson is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on April 16, 1962 in Bogside, County Donegal, Ireland. Martina Anderson (born 16 April 1962) is an Irish politician from Northern Ireland who was a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) representing Northern Ireland for Sinn Fein between 2012 and 2020. She joined the Irish republican movement in the latter part of the 1970s, and was a volunteer for the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA). In June of 1986 she was found guilty of conspiring to trigger explosions in 1985, and was sentenced to life imprisonment. The court released her 13 years on under the part under the Good Friday Agreement and subsequently was involved in politics in the name of Sinn Fein. She was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Northern Ireland from 2007 to 2012 serving as a representative for Foyle. She was part of the Northern Ireland Executive as a Junior Minister in The Office of the First Minister as well as Deputy First Minister from the year 2011 to 2012. She was elected a member of the European Parliament, and she was elected in 2014 and in the year 2019.
In December 2007, Anderson said she was concerned that large numbers of migrant workers from mainly Catholic countries were being classed as ‘Catholic/nationalist’ in monitoring forms, rather than ‘other’. Anderson stated “Given that the entire basis of the legislation around monitoring was put in place to identify imbalances in the workforce between the local Catholic/nationalist and Protestant/unionist communities it is therefore vital that given the addition of migrant workers in the workforce, that they should clearly be categorised as having a community background of ‘other’.” Monitoring of employment through the Equality Commission records solely religion and not any political affiliation.
In 2007, Anderson was elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly as a Sinn Féin member for Foyle, along with Raymond McCartney.
She was selected by Sinn Féin to fight the Foyle constituency at the 2010 Westminster General Election. She lost to the SDLP incumbent, Mark Durkan, by 5,000 votes (11% of the vote). In May 2012 it was announced that she would be replacing Bairbre de Brún, as MEP for Northern Ireland. Anderson retained her MEP seat in the 2014 election, topping the poll with 159,813 first-preference votes.
When she was in 1989, Anderson was married by fellow prisoners as well as IRA participant Paul Kavanagh at Full Sutton Prison. In 1993 she was among only two female Category A prisoners in England with the other being another conservative Ella O’Dwyer. While in Durham Prison, Anderson obtained the first-class honours degree in social science at the Open University. She was moved to Durham into Maghaberry Prison in Northern Ireland. On the 10th of November, 1998 Anderson received her release under the conditions in the Good Friday Agreement.

Anderson Was born at Anderson was born in Bogside of Derry, Northern Ireland, to a well-known Irish republican families. Her father was Protestant. She has three sisters and six brothers. One of them, Peter, is a former Sinn Fein councillor, and her niece is Irish Senator and former Foyle MP Elisha McCallion. She attended St Cecilia’s College between 1973 until 1980.
Anderson was detained at the age of 18 in a furniture store in Derry and charged with the possession of a gun and sparking an explosion. Anderson was released under bail after the duration of two months inside Armagh Women’s Prison and fled across the border to Buncrana in County Donegal. Anderson was arrested again on June 24, 1985, in an apartment in Glasgow along with 4 other IRA members, including Brighton Bomber Patrick Magee. On the 11th of June, 1986 the five were found guilty of conspiring to set off explosions in England but Magee is the one one who was found guilty of the Brighton hotel bombing.
In May 2007, Anderson became one of the first Sinn Féin members to join the Northern Ireland Policing Board.
