His family moved out of Algeria initially to Israel in 1961 before moving on to France after which they moved to France in the year 1962. He was a committed young writer and reader. After finishing his studies at the Medical School at Tours and then working in a small town situated in Sarthe (western countryside France) in the years 1983 until 1993. From 1983 until 1989, he was an editor then assistant editor-in chief for the medical journal independent La Revue Prescrire under his real name Marc Zaffran.
He started an rural medical practice in 1983. He left in 1993 to devote much of his time working as a translator and writer. He remained as a doctor on a part-time basis at the Le Mans public hospital, in the Abortion and Contraception clinic up to the year 2008. His work as a women’s health practitioner lasted for over 25 years. A lot of his writings was a result of his experiences as a medical professional.
In 2009 he immigrated to Montreal, Quebec where he first worked as an guest researcher at the Centre de Recherches en éthique de l’Université de Montréal (CREUM), on a research project about the training of medical personnel. He became a Canadian citizen in 2019.
