Karl Martin Sandberg (Swedish: [‘mat:In ‘san(d)baerj (also known as’sambaerj’) born on February 26, 1971) who is professionally referred to under the username Max Martin, is a Swedish artist, singer, as well as a record producer. He gained acclaim in the second decade of the 1990s following creating a series of hits including Britney Spears’s “…Baby One More Time” (1998) as well as”I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It This Way” (1999) along with the NSYNC’s “It’s Going To be Me” (2000).
In 1995, Cheiron Studios was commissioned by Zomba to assist in the production of Backstreet Boys’ self-titled debut album Backstreet Boys (1996). Zomba became the principal working partner following the album’s record’s success in 1995. Martin participated in the recording of “Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)” (1996) written by co-writer Herbie Crichlow. The song that was soon platinum, and then climbed to the position of No. 2 . on the Billboard Hot 100, as also songs like “As Long As You Love Me” (1997) and “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” (1997). The album didn’t release within the U.S. until 1997, however, it was released internationally and was a hit across Europe and eventually sold approximately 8 million copies across the world. This led to Backstreet Boys being relaunched in their homeland later but this time more successful. The following the same year Martin was a co-writer and producer on Robyn’s smash hits “Show Me Love” and “Do You Know (What It Takes)” that was a hit on the Billboard Hot 100 top 10.
In 1998, Cheiron Productions worked on albums by Five and Jessica Folcker. Jessica Folcker had first been hired as a backing singer for tracks with Ace of Base and Dr. Alban, and her debut album Jessica became an instant hit with singles like “Tell Me What You Like” and “How Will I Know Who You Are” which both sold platinum. After Denniz PoP died of cancer that same summer, Martin took over as director of Cheiron Studios. He soon started working with writer/producer Rami Yacoub, who continued to be his partner for many years. Martin also wrote two songs with Bryan Adams during this time, “Cloud Number Nine” and “Before The Night Is Over”.
Since 1999, Max Martin has written or co-written 23 Billboard Hot 100 number- one hits (most of which he has also produced or co-produced). Five of these songs made their debut on the chart at number-one.
The choice to focus on a musical career resulted in an agreement to record with Denniz PoP’s label Cheiron Records, which is a BMG affiliate. After releasing their second album Earthquake Visions, they released three singles as part of the album and toured Europe in 1994 to support Kingdom Come. Earthquake Visions was eventually released to only 30,000 copies despite its release in up to 30 countries. But, more importantly, Martin also began collaborating on songs with PoP. Being aware of the potential for writing pop songs among the rocker’s younger years, PoP renamed his new pupil Max Martin and eventually became Martin’s mentor.

Despite the success, Cheiron Studios was closed down in 2000. The reason behind the decision to close it down was, according to the press release on their homepage, that the heart and soul of the studio had been lost with the death of Denniz PoP. Another reason for closing the studio down was for the people at Cheiron Studios to be able to do more experimental music work without the weight of the now famous name Cheiron upon their shoulders.
