Burkert is a native of Wurzburg. He has been a member in the Bundestag of Germany since 2013 elections. He is currently as a member of the Committee on Transport and, since 2013 it was on the Committee on Transport and Digital Infrastructure and was chairman of this committee for a period of time from 2013 until 2017. From 2005 to 2009, he was an active part of the Committee on the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.
