Since the 17th of January, 2018, she is a member of the Parliament of Catalonia in the 12th term for the coalition of electoral Junts per Catalunya.
In January 2016, the city was renamed after the abrupt appointment by Carles Puigdemont as new head of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Albert Ballesta was elected the city mayor and Madrenas continued to be the mayor, assuming his post within the city council, but by adding the responsibility in town- planning. After just three months had gone by, Albert Ballesta resigned due to issues he encountered when negotiating with other political parties to accept him as mayor. Eventually, Madrenas became the new mayor of Girona on the 18th of March and is now evaluating whether he will run in the coming municipal elections to be re-elected.
