Marshall Hollingsworth (born August 6 in 1993) is an American professional soccer player who is an attacking midfielder as well as a fullback. After finishing his studies at Wheaton college, Marshall before played with Columbus Crew SC and Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
For the second time in a row, Hollingsworth was sent on loan by Columbus. In contrast to the 2016 season, he was not invited to the U.S. Open Cup, instead being put on loan. Hollingsworth was injured in his knee during the middle of August while on loan, which put on the sidelines for the remainder of the entire year. Hollingsworth did not play for Columbus during the 2017 campaign.
On January 14, 2016, Hollingsworth was selected by Columbus Crew SC with the 41st pick of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft. He became the first soccer player from Libertyville High School to go pro, and became the first soccer player in Wheaton College history to be drafted in the MLS draft. He officially signed for Crew SC on March 4, 2016, after taking part in preseason with the club.
Hollingsworth was drafted by Columbus Crew SC in the second round of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft. He was under contract with the club for both of his professional seasons, but only played in one game for Crew SC, a fourth round tie in the 2016 U.S. Open Cup against Tampa Bay Rowdies. He would score his only goal for the club in that match. Hollingsworth was sent on loan to Pittsburgh Riverhounds in the United Soccer League for the majority of both seasons, eventually appearing nearly 50 times for the Riverhounds. He announced his retirement from professional soccer following the 2017 season due to recurring knee injuries, the latest of which he had suffered in August 2017 while with Pittsburgh; the injury forced him to undergo a meniscus transplant shortly after his retirement. After a season away from the game, however, he returned and signed with Lansing Ignite in March 2019.
Hollingsworth is a loanee of Crew SC’s affiliate team, Pittsburgh Riverhounds, on 17 March 2016. Hollingsworth made his debut for the professional team on April 2nd, 2016 in the Riverhounds opening match of the season in a match against Rochester Rhinos. Hollingsworth took part in the entire 90 minutes of the 1-0 loss for Pittsburgh. On the 17th of April Hollingsworth made his debut goal during his loan stint, providing the assist for the Romeo Parkes goal in the 41st minute of the match against Toronto FC II. The game ended with the draw of 2-2. Hollingsworth ended the season with a single assist in 24 games.

He was raised from Libertyville, Illinois, Hollingsworth was a student at Libertyville High School. The three-year veteran was the varsity player with the Wildcats and twice was selected IHSA All-State. As a junior in the year 2010, Hollingsworth led the Wildcats to a state-ranked runner-up finish but lost the 3A final contest against Boylan Catholic High School. In his senior year, Libertyville won the Pepsi Showdown against Lyons Township High School, and also an overall regional championship, however, they were eliminated in the semifinals of the section at the hands of Fremd High School. Hollingsworth received the honor of being named IHSA All-Midwest and was named as the Lake County All-Area Captain his senior season.
Hollingsworth played in college soccer for Wheaton College, which is an NCAA Division III school that is part of the CCIW. He was immediately able to take on the starting position in for his first year, and played in 19 of the 23 games that he played in. The forward scored nine goals, and had three assists, and scored the goal that won the game five times. On the 16th of November the year 2012 ended, Hollingsworth made the only score in a 1-0 victory against Dominican at the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals. Hollingsworth was selected as one of the CCIW newcomer of the year and named to the First All-CCIW First. Hollingsworth fell off a bit in during his sophomore year, scoring only 5 goals, 4 assists over 21 games. Hollingsworth scored his first multi-goal performance for the Thunder on the 23rd of October 2013 in a game against Augustana with a 5-1 win for Wheaton. He scored the winning goal just three days after against Millikin with an 3-2 win the Thunder were named The CCIW offensive player of the week. The season ended with him being named the CCIW’s First All-CCIW First. Hollingsworth was a starter in every game as a junior scoring nine goals, and eight assists. When the Thunder finished runners-up in the national championship, Hollingsworth was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team, First Team All-CCIW, as well as an official CCIW Best Player. Hollingsworth reserved his best performance but for his final season. Hollingsworth scored 22 goals over 22 games and added six assists, making the seventh-highest number of goals scored during a season in school history. He scored the game-winning goal six times, including in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in a 1-0 victory over Wisconsin-Whitewater. Hollingsworth continued to be named CCIW player of the year, and was named First Team All- CCIW for a fourth consecutive season. Hollingsworth finished his college career with a total of 45 goals and 21 assists in the 92 games.
Hollingsworth made his first appearance while under contract with Columbus on May 11, 2016, a friendly against Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz. He was brought on at halftime and played 45 minutes in the 1–0 victory for Crew SC. Officially, Hollingsworth’s debut for Columbus came on June 15, in the fourth round of the 2016 U.S. Open Cup. Off a feed from Hector Jiménez in the 65th minute, Hollingsworth notched his first career goal in the 4-0 win against Tampa Bay Rowdies. He did not make an appearance for Columbus in league play, spending the entirety of the season on loan.
