Markus Redmond (born February 5, 1971 in Philadelphia, PA) is an American film director, screenwriter, producer and actor. He is best known for his pivotal role as hospital orderly “Raymond Alexander,” in 71 episodes of the comedy- drama series Doogie Howser, M.D., co-created by legendary television producer, Steven Bochco; and for the famous police station scene it the cult classic Fight Club.
In 1990, legendary television producer, Steven Bochco, wanted to add diversity to the national prime-time landscape by hiring actors of color. Handpicked from hundreds of auditioners, Redmond became the first black teenager to star as a series regular on a major network. Redmond joined the cast of Doogie Howser, MD at the start of the show’s 2nd season and he remained until the series ended in 1993.
Redmond would go on to work with Bochco on two more prime-time network series; first in the recurring role of “Officer Lucas” on NYPD Blue (1993-1994), and then as “Mark Washington” in two season of Murder One (1995-1996).
