In 1982, he was in three rounds of the French Open, with wins over Jose Luis Damiani and Gilles Moretton. His most impressive performance at the tournament was in Florence which he finished as semi-finalist.
Ostoja reached another Grand Slam third round in the 1985 US Open. He had one of the best wins of his career at the Lipton International Players Championships in Delray Beach that year, defeating world number six Henrik Sundström in straight sets.
He had his most successful year on tour in the year 1981 when he took his first professional title in Brussels and made it to the doubles finals at the Austrian Open. The Croatian also made it to the semi-finals of Stowe, Vermont, that year.
