Mark Warkentien (born April 16 1953, in Huntington, Indiana) is an executive in the front office for the New York Knicks of the NBA. He is currently the Director of Player Personnel for the team. He also served as the previous Vice Director of Basketball Operations for the Denver Nuggets in which he received the NBA Executive of the Year Award for the 2008-09 NBA season.
Warkentien was promoted to the position of Vice President for Basketball Operations of the Denver Nuggets in 2006 and was replaced by Kiki Vandeweghe just after the season had ended. In his period in Denver Warkentien made two blockbuster deals. One with the Philadelphia 76ers who traded Andre Miller to Philadelphia for Allen Iverson, and the second deal sent Allen Iverson to Detroit to bring Denver local Chauncey Billups back home.
On August 3, 2010, the Nuggets declined to extend Warkentien’s contract, ending his four-year association with the team.
On January 30, 2011 The New York Knicks agreed to hire Warkentien as a high- level consultant. On February 5, 2011, they named him Director of Pro Player Personnel.
Then he was a part of his position in the Cleveland Cavaliers front office as Director of Player Personnel. He also became interim GM during the final stretch of the 2004-05 campaign.
